`London ColneyBoth lakes are fishing well despite the freezing conditions. Reports of past performances have mentioned several carp to 20lb as well as tench to 8lb and bream to 7lb. Currently the Club is aware of a tree being down between pegs 3 and 4 (on the large lake) and the Trust will be contacted to address this issue.Sonning Chub to 5lb and Perch to 2lbTwo events in '10 will repeat in '11The Clubs Open Day held last September turned out to be very successful despite the last minute organisation. This year we plan to repeat the exercise on September 3rd. Again the venue will be Shepherds Way and an invitation to all members who have a 'would be' fishing friend or would like to improve their angling 'techniques' are invited to drop in during the day where we are sure you'll find something of benefit. The Club's second success of 2010 was the trip arranged to the River Severn. A repeat trip is being arranged for Sunday 11th September and as last year, some fanatics will be making a long weekend of it, staying at the Bulls Head Chelmarsh from Friday night (9th) until Monday morning (12th). More details can be obtained from the Club e-mail address featured in our newsletter. The Club WebsiteSeen as a major player in attracting new members, the Club website has seen a number of subtle changes over the years of its existence. Some of us love it others loathe it, some use it some even abuse it. All that matters is that it is an important tool for the Club and its members -even if they don't use the Forum facility as much as its originators had hoped. Now we have the services of a new 'Webmaster' - Raymond Wood - who will hopefully bring further new life to the site by whatever means are agreed by the Committee. As always what you get out of something usually depends on what you put into it and that means providing our new webmaster with information. Hopefully Ray may become known via personal contact but for those of us with information and computers, he can be contacted via his email address featured in our current newsletter.Work PartiesShepherds Way and Lowbell are fisheries that are relatively easy to maintain and as such do not demand high inputs of work party members. Our fisheries on the Thames at Sonning and the Ouse at The Spinney and Blunham plus London Colney all demand a high level of maintenance. Sonning is ably managed by our Chairman who seems to just about manage with club members and local associate members but some years he struggles. The Ouse - probably my favourite river - suffers badly. The Club has two lovely stretches of water which could provide members and visitors from associate clubs with idyllic 'slow' flowing river fishing. Unfortunately The Spinney stretch is fast becoming unfishable due to overgrown swims and access - this despite sterling efforts by the bailiff Michael Matheau. The Blunham stretch originally had up to 70 pegs, now around a dozen are 'used' during a season - apart from the one-off match held there at the end of the season. Work parties at these venues are vital and without them the fisheries will obviously suffer. The two river venues can cause problems due to costs involving travel but pairing up or even making up a foursome would provide valuable resources as well as ease the financial burden. Swim 'building' on our rivers is a rare exercise these days. What is needed is swim clearance i.e. trimming back branches, shrubs, reeds etc so that you can access the water. Equipment is needed in the form of loppers, (bow) saws, strimmers, rakes and cutters and although the Club does have a strimmer or two plus an extending saw/lopper you need to be creative and bring suitable equipment with you otherwise little will be achieved. Digging forks, secateurs and even spades can be left at home - the bailiff will always sling a spade in the boot of his vehicle' All these fisheries will provide members with a memorable days fishing if you know where and how to fish them. What better way than to spend a few hours on the riverbank gaining this information and clearing swims that may achieve this and enabling other members to do likewise. Remember your work party levy is a poor substitute for an informative 'day' on our river fisheries.LowbellGood catches of roach when conditions allow are being reported. With the clearing of some of the swims overhanging branches, the venue should increase in popularity.Topic OneLorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat. It has been fishing extremely well this year and an added bonus of late is the report of carp up to 2 - 3 inches being caught. Bodes well for the future. The roach population needs to be thinned out and a netting operation will be undertaken in the forthcoming 'River Close Season'. EA notification and compliance with current regulations will be followed prior to the restocking of these small roach into the small lake at Colney.BlunhamChub to 5lb have been caught along with fair nets of bream from those swims noted for such resultsIvelRoach to 2lbs 7oz and perch to 3lbs 3oz were caught on the Back Meadow at Biggleswade recently. No sign of the chub or barbel, but they are there!Topic TwoUt wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exerci tation ullamcorper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat.
