Broad Colney Lakes

Shenley Lane, London Colney, Herts.

Two long established lakes, the larger being approximately 20 acres in size. This mixed fishery contains Roach, Perch, Tench, Bream, Pike and some very large Carp.

The smaller of the two lakes is 10 acres, and again holds a variety of species. Popular with Carp and Pike anglers, there are some 30lb specimens to be had for the patient angler. This lake was stocked with 600 Carp up to 6lb in 2006.A further 350lb of Carp were stocked in March 2008 (sizes were from 12oz to 2lb).

Tips and Techniques

Big Lake

For great Tench fishing in the early season try caster or chopped worm on the pole in pegs 19 to 25 on the big lake. Try hemp and caster up in the shallow water, pegs 1 to 18 for great bags of Roach. If you're looking for the Bream Shoals try pegs 34 to 44, in these deep pegs a groundbait and feeder approach can be very productive. In the colder months sqatt and groundbait fished on light rigs can keep the Roach and Skimmers feeding.

Small Lake

For the big Carp try pegs 119-122 and fish to the far bank. Tench in the margins over sweetcorn and maggot. There are good Bream to be found in pegs 129 and 130, try the groundbait and feeder approach.
